If you are using the Mac version, you can use the File > Export Graphics > 2D Graphics command to specify PDF output. However, this can result in a massive output file which may not be what you really want. In general, PDF is not a good solution for photo-realistic graphics; you should use a high-quality TIFF or PNG file (with transparent background) instead.
